whish list ?

I think it will be a good think to have a wish list for features.

Personnaly I need some features.

- fur with curves directions.
- hair with better smooth tip like in real life.
- fur feedback in the viewport.
- fur shader with the last tech (marchner etc).
- anisotropic node (like I show to Ben, the actual anisotropic dosen't work)
- detach pannels to work in dual screens.
- menus to the panel to add lot of futures features.
- smooth preview in the viewport
- wire on the mesh in the viewport
- better SSS with directly 3 slot for back, epidermal etc
- sun & sky maybe.
- Ptex
- etc

I totally anderstand that you have lot of work and some other more urgent features to do wink

I forgot that post > http://www.guerillarender.com/forum/vie … php?id=125 hu hu hu sorry.

Re: whish list ?

- hair with better smooth tip like in real life.
In real life the hairs are broken so , in general the tip  are not smooth at all.
By the way you can already modify that.

- anisotropic node (like I show to Ben, the actual anisotropic dosen't work)
Use the Tangent node instead of the computed SL shader tangent , and enable the surface tangent.

- better SSS with directly 3 slot for back, epidermal etc
Why don t you do a shader for it and save it in your library.

- fur with curves directions.
Why do you mean ? to do the fur directly in Guerilla?

It seem that you want them to do essentially shading.
I would prefere them to concentrate only on core Dev, for the moment.

Re: whish list ?

Your feature list is very close to our internal list. Quick update :

Currently in dev :
- fur feedback in the viewport.
- detach pannels to work in dual screens.
- better default skin shader

Incoming :
- Ptex
- hair with better smooth tip like in real life.

Definitly needed :
- fur with curves directions.
- fur shader with the last tech (marchner etc).
- smooth preview in the viewport

Need specifications :
- menus to the panel to add lot of futures features.
- wire on the mesh in the viewport
- sun & sky maybe.

Re: whish list ?

thx hulud !

Pixo, I totaly anderstand what you said.
Thx for your answers wink

For the fur, yes, in guerilla, that will be really powerfull.
The Guerilla fur is pretty good and we can modify it as we want.
We just need to drive the direction with curves to be perfect !

For the SSS shader, unfortunatly, I'm not as good as you, I can make some shader, but a real and good shader, I can't unfortunatly sad

We don't work for the same productions, you work on movie with big scenes and you need a really powerfull core.
I work only for myself actually, so the core is good for my littles scenes ^^
So I need some features to make goods pictures ^^
Like I said, I'm totaly anderstand you and I know my demands are not importants.

I just post to have a record.

Re: whish list ?

I m sorry , but i m not so convicted for the furs.
In fact i will not be convinced till Guerilla don t become a full animation 3d package ...
There is a lot of solutions to generate Hairs and Furs (for instance http://peregrinelabs.com/yeti/)

By the way many studio already have custom solutions.
The only things that would be great is to open the exporter, and this is already planed according to the Guerilla team.

I m personally more impatient  about a full  Raytracer Hider integration .
Some simple scenes are painful and almost impossible to render in a Reyes render even if they have a simple layout, i experienced some painful scene the last month.

Improve the possibilities to design Shaders.
-Exposed arguments organisations .
-Co-shaders like node (we can trick this with messages passing, but find a clean way to share everythings)

Better transformation gizmo.
More Render View tools .
-Viewport snapshot to put in background
-Color picking not only one pixel, but a selection of pixels and make an average.

Voxel occlusion
New weta sss
Put all the siggraph documentation link here -> @Category i want everything
More and more ..

I m sorry to be rude, but if they can concentrate on the main things before the specific one.

I m not sure that guerilla is done for day to day home works, but i m pretty sure it work well in a studio ,especially when everything is correctly setuped.
Guerilla still miss some point but it work and don t cost too much to setup.

Sorry ,
Cheers

Re: whish list ?

I'm totally agree with you like I said wink
I have all my time, so they can make better features like raytracer etc before other littles features.

Very cool plug, very interesting ! I really want to test that !

For the fur, Create it in maya and export in guerilla. Not make all in guerilla.
With the curves directions, we can make what we want.

New weta sss will be marvelous ^^

Re: whish list ?

If you have collision and animation the guerilla curves directions will not help at all.
It may be good for still images , grasses or very cheap animations.

Re: whish list ?

No, you can use the curves of the hair system of maya, so you have collisions and dynamics wink

In fact, you drive the fur by the hair system and these curves are used in guerilla to drive the direction, lenght etc.

Re: whish list ?

I probably misunderstood something...
The directions curves that you want, is it to do a grooming in guerilla?
If you want to do a grooming in guerilla it will not have any animation at all , may be some wind no more.

I know that the actual fur procedure can be drive by the maya fur, we already used it here with Ben, we found a lots of disagreements that guerilla would never correct since it is maya problems (mainly rigging).
