Re: Renders test

Hi Pitiwazou,

Check the following things :

- RenderPass > Render Settings > Hider = Raytrace
The Raytrace hider is usually faster, especially if the original mesh is highly subdivided

- RenderPass > Render Settings > Debug > Parameter Optimization = Default
This option turns shader optimizations on for default parameters. Make sure unnecessary parameters are not overriden in the RenderGraph to benefit from full optimization

- Preferences > Local Settings > CPU > Enable LLVM is checked
This option turns shader jit-compilation on, which usually speed up renders

- Preferences > Local Settings > CPU > Cache LLVM is checked
This option caches compiled shaders once for all. This is not completely necessary, but this usually improves render startup time.

Eventually, you are rendering a ful HD GI frame, you can't really expect to have über fast renders. The technique we use now renders noticeably better images with much less setup, the counterpart being render time.

Cheers,
Ben

Re: Renders test

Hi Ben, except the "Parameter Optimization = Default", all my parameters are the same as you.

Gam, I thik the plane behing the character take all the render time. For the final image, it will be a map in nuke ^^

My parameters are :

Sampling > 8, 8, maybe to high.
raytracing samples > 256 for this long render.
glossy caustics < maybe not usefull for this type of rendering.
direct and indirect at 4 for the SSS to increase the sampling in the dark area < maybe wrong on this one, but better result.

Also, yes, guerilla is really simple to use, env, area, shaders, bam ! Really fun !

Weird result with the Parameter Optimization = Default

Re: Renders test

Hey, I'm interested in this bug you have with the Parameter Optimization = Default !
Can you pack an archive with the project and send it to me in mail? This whole optim stuff is a bit new, so I'd like to have a look at the shaders and stuff...

Re: Renders test

Default Parameter Optimization bug is fixed. Activating this now gives in a nice 15% rendering time improvement on your scene smile
Out soon in 0.17.0b9!

Re: Renders test

Little question !

I would like to make fibers with this kind of maps

http://uppix.3dvf.com/images/8AcZs.jpg

On the 0.14 release of guerilla, in reyes, I used the displacement.
On this 0.17, I use raytrace and i would like to use it in normal map. But, I have some weird results.

With this map, I have my normal

http://uppix.3dvf.com/images/FE1wU.jpg

With this one and other like the first etc, I have nothing

http://uppix.3dvf.com/images/vkSqG.jpg

Even with this one, I have nothing.

http://uppix.3dvf.com/images/iyjk.jpg

Can you explain to me the good way to use these maps ?

Even if I play with the range slider I have nothing.

Re: Renders test

Works fine with me.

The first 3 textures should be used as bump maps with the NormalBumpMap mode:
http://guerillarender.com/images/map_pitiwazou1.png

The normal map should use the NormalMap mode:

I need to look the doc on the rendergraph ^^

You don't use the browser for the shaders ? Only the rendergraph ? Whitch is better ?

Ok, I see the benefits of the rendergraph !

Same parameters as you, but, dosn't work with the normal and I don't have the preview of the shader.

Re: Renders test

Hi,

Do you have write permissions in this U:/Textures/tileable directory?
Guerilla builds a .tex file in the same location as the bitmap you picked, so you need to be able to write in that directory.
You can also check that there is a .guerilla directory next to your fifle, with the .tex file in it.

Re: Renders test

How to give a permission to guerilla ?
I have the directory, he is empty because I trash the old maps.
I have added some directory in the preferences. chmm, Dhmm etc

Re: Renders test

Reinstall Guerilla smile
And then clean up the local registry in regedit, folder Current User > Softwares > Mercenaries Engineering > Guerilla Render.

That should do it! smile

Re: Renders test

New render !

I have 2 questions !

https://photos-4.dropbox.com/t/0/AACl3qgYbmyZY5pYPhPlNF2-RieEbkaZOQ-hC7CtNMQ1zA/12/7899329/png/32x32/3/_/1/2/perso_028.png/k4UgB1Pj8e3J6zjLIl26bhCMvV8t9xBvYh3PyAEd8L0?size=2048x1536

I would like to use 2 maps for the bump and normal on one shader. One for the sculpt, one for the fabric. Like this, I will have the best details possible.
How can I do that in the rendergraph ?

The second is : how to make transparency in a shader with a ramp. In the browser, I put the ramp in the opacity input, but, in the rendergraph, where can I put the map ?

http://uppix.3dvf.com/images/WSzPi.jpg

On this picture, I put the map in the glass color with an IOR of 1, but the globe is black and I want it blanc.

Thx for your help wink

Re: Renders test

Hi,

The easiest is to create a custom node in your scene.
1. Create an empty macro node in a new material
2. Create a custom network in it
3. Expose the needed inputs in the macro (they will be the parameters shown in the RenderGraph template)
4. Copy the macro and paste it back into the browser
5. You should see the node in the list (just like any NormalMap, NormalBumpMap, etc.)

The process is a bit awkward right now, but we'll make it simpler soon (like you can create a node directly without the need for a material before...)
The idea is to factorize work for production and make sure data can be easily upgraded.

Once you've designed a utility node, you can save it in the library (in attributes), and it will always appear in the list of available attribute shaders !
