Guerilla Render V1.0 - Ambient light + Occlusion layer... how to ?

Dear All,

As Options, properties have changed, moved with the new release of Guerilla....  I'm a little bit confused.
How to set up now, a scene with an Occlusion layer linked to an Ambient light ?

OK... drag and drop an Ambient light from the Library into the Browser. Double click on it, select the Occlusion node and change in the Properties... Gather mode to Point based.

In the Passes tab, select a Layer and duplicate it. Change the Beauty AOV of this one... to Occlusion.
And then, I'm not sure. I guess, we have to connect the Ambient light node to the right Render passes + the right Output.
And the Point cloud as well ?

If I do it, I have this message : Errors have been raised during rendering, check the console for more details
Can't open file C:/Users/GENE/Documents/Guerilla/wip/RenderPass_Occlusion_2_00001.tiff for reading (errno 2 : No such file or directory)
buildtex: Can't open the bitmap file '$(IMAGES)/RenderPass_Occlusion_2_00001.tiff'.

Cheers.

Hi Hervus,

The point based work flow is deprecated now, Guerilla has swtiched to full raytracing global illumination.

To setup an occlusion pass, simply add an AOV in your layer (for instance, duplicate the Beauty AOV), then change it to Occlusion using the drop down. There is no light involved here.
To tweak the occlusion, simply select the Occlusion AOV in the layer, and in the properties, unroll the Occluion tab, to tweak the various parameters.

Most common parameters are:
- RayLength (occlusion distance)
- Samples (quality)
- HitColor/SkyColor (color and contrast of the occlusion pass)

Either way, if you want to setup an environment light for HDR lighting, simply create a light, then turn its Mode to Env, then, click the 'Create' button next to Environment Map, and setup the HDR map then.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your answer.
In case of HDR ligthing... whatever is the type of light ?
Sorry, I don't find any Mode in the Light properties !

Cheers,
Hervus.

Ho, typo here.
I meant Type, the second item from the top of the properties, right after On.

OK, but I only have... Ambient, Point, Square, Disc, Sphere and Distant ! wink
Maybe I should use directly a Gradient Environment and add an EnvMap ?

The GradientLight is simply an Env light with a preset shader to burn a color gradient over an envirornment map.
To edit the gradient, expand the GradientLight node in the Node List until you find the Gradient node. Select it and tweak the colors.

OK for the gradient, but to turn the Type of a light to ENV ! I don't have this option in the v 1.0.1

Oh... My bad, this is available only in 1.1.
In the meantime, you can create an Environment (Create > Create Environment)
This works quite like an EnvLight but light linking is slightly different.
We've simplified this in 1.1.

Cheers,
Ben

OK, thanks Ben.

H.

PS: it seems that it's not possible to build a map when using "create new envirnonment"... so the map is not reconized and everything is black then. So, I used a Envmap directly inside the project settings. I have to figure out about how to connect the Occlusion layer !
