Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
Hi ! hehe
It's been a long time since I've played with Guerilla, here we go
For those interested in comparing, here is the original render in Keyshot : http://i.imgur.com/UkivWpL.png
I couldn't reproduce the complex shading for the jelly but I'm still quite satisfied with this one.
Unfortunately her eyelashes are missing (they are planes with transparency) because I couldn't find out how to properly use (the documentation) the opacity parameters; the idea was to put a dark color into the diffuse but controlled by a B&W opacity map. Didn't work.

Wow. Just wow. Great pic!
Something tells me we're gonna need this bigger, because I know someone who's gonna put it as a wallpaper!
For mapped opacity, this is fairly simple. Just map the Surface shader Opacity > Mask with a MaskTexture as follows:
On a simple test plane, this produces:
Cheers!

Hehe glad you like it ^^
It's a fanart of a fanart lol, original concept here : http://dutomaster.deviantart.com/art/Zac-381995936
..un rendu plus grand, ok ça marche ^^
I still have tiny details to model then I will come back to show the result I think I won't make as much jelly as the original because it may hinder the lighting

Re: Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
So... Here's my last render so far, and I have to say, correcting the noise by hand without any denoiser is something I'd rather NOT do again x)
Edit: The picture is 2K, you need to open it in a new tab to see the full size
I still have basic stuffs to learn like, how to sort out the Z depth AOV without it being totally black and white like some basic alpha mask x) I changed the distance in the camera field distance but no luck. That being said, there's probably a scale problem with my scene... as usual ^^; What do you think guys ?

Re: Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
Awesome!
You can control the Z Depth range, select the aov in the Render Passes, and (at the end of the properties) you'll find a ZDpeth tabb, with Near and Far ranges. Tweak them to adjust the range properly.
Cheers!

Re: Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
Hmmmm sorry I don't get it.
The usual behaviour in cases like this is :
1. Read the doc - found nothing explaining the Zdepth setup
2. Search in the forum - there is no search field. Found at page 4 a 2010 post, probably too old to be useful (http://guerillarender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=159)
Found no Near and Far ranges in the Z tab, but usually Zdepth is bound to the camera so... there is Near/Far parameters in the camera but it's working more like a clipping plane than anything. In the Depth tab there's basically... nothing. Help !

Re: Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
Hi Tetsuoo,
Hmm sorry, I admit this is not in the doc... My bad
I've aded a ZDepth aov (in 1.4.0rc6) which has Near and Far controls like this:
The basic Z aov is kind of redundant now, I'll remove it from the aov presets.
Sorry sorry for the doc bug!
And happy new year!
Cheers,
Ben

Re: Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
Thanks for the quick answer ! It looks like I have Guerilla 1.4.0b26 and not 1.4.0rc6, that's why I couldn't find the last ZDepth AOV x)
BUT I've also found out that I'm an incompetent klutz who doesn't know how to properly use a depth map x) (I don't use it very often...)
So in fact even if the output looks like it's only 2 colors (100% black and 100% white), it's NOT; the color informations are in there, it's 32 bits after all ! So in Photoshop I put exposition=-1 or so and I get this :
Not sure if that's accurate, it's inverted but still useable, I guess I will have to wait for next version of Guerilla to try the new ZDepth AOV
Anyway, I had lots of fun using Guerilla for this project, despite having lot of noise I'm pretty happy with the skin shader and the lighting overall, the hairs look good too compared to the last Keyshot render (I like both, it's hard to choose lol)
Oh, and happy new year too ^^

Re: Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
The ZDepth only remaps the classic Z, which is the true depth from the camera point of view, in scene units, so basically you'll get pretty much the same value with photoshop (with gain and contrast operations, not gamma though.)
In effect, it is difficult to compare Guerilla with KeyShot second for second (or dollar for dollar -- or euro, your choice) as Guerilla is not (currently) GPU accelerated, but Guerilla becomes much better suited at handling large scenes (loads of objects, loads of polys, loads of textures) as it is not limited by GPU memory. Also, it's probably capable of more complex rendering features (sss, volumetric, complex lighting setup, etc.) though I'm not an expert of KeyShot
My apologies for the commercial speech
Cheers!

Re: Sexy nurse with jelly (NSFW)
Ah, Keyshot is CPU-based actually ! That's why I can still use it with my old GTX 560 graphic card
And it can handle billions of polygons, I'm not sure for complex scenes as it's more specialized in concept presentation.
For example one of my last projects was a nature scene in a forest with about 10000 leaves, it was manageable. But try to render a scene with 300 000 hairs is a different story x) Glowing materials can usually become an issue too, which is why I started to prefer Guerilla for those cases.
I don't know yet how to make complex shading in Guerilla; in Keyshot for example the tentacles-blob thing is a semi-glossy material with a dark metallic matter inside, controlled by a gradient. I remembered that I had a hard time just to create a gradient in Guerilla back then when I started learning it, so I immediately gave up on doing anything that complex xD (but the gradient is in the library btw. Oh well). I wanted quick and efficient so, maybe next time
Of course it's always complicate to learn a new software, but there's a reason why I came back to Guerilla; good render times, the workflow is not too frustrating, the shading is quite simple and very easy to learn. I couldn't use vertex colors but that's okay
